Here’s a quick summary of how to maintain a spa:

Water: Check the chemical levels weekly with test strips and adjust them by adding the appropriate products per your owner’s manual—no chemistry expertise necessary. Drain and refills are only needed every 3-4 months, based on use.

Filter: Rinse and clean filters with a garden hose or filter flosser once per month. Replace as needed.
Cover: Use a cover to help keep your water warm and clean. It will protect your spa from debris and weather elements.

What is the purpose of a circulation pump?

Today's finest spas feature a circulation pump that continuously filters the water to keep it clean and clear. It also provides the necessary flow to allow the heater to constantly maintain your set temperature. Spas without circulation pumps must rely on the low speed of a larger horsepower pump turning on periodically to provide filtration and the flow required for heating. The circulation pump is the most efficient method to provide flow for filtration and heating.

How often do I clean the spa?

Most manufacturers recommend draining and cleaning your spa no more than 3 or 4 times per year, depending on how frequently you use it and how well you maintain your water. In most cases this simple process will only take about an hour to accomplish.

What are some things that I should keep in my when selecting a location for my spa?

Accepted Answer

Place your spa on a surface that is large enough to fit the entire unit. The spa must be on a solid, leveled foundation.
We recommend the use of a 4-inch cement slab seasoned for at least 72 hours. This is very important as your warranty will be voided if the spa is not properly installed.

Structural damage due to an improper foundation is not covered under warranty.

What electrical requirements do I need for my spa?

Please contact your dealer for the exact breaker size in accordance to your hot tub model. Our 220V spas require a 50A or 60A load center GFCI with a 4 wire hook up – 2 hots, neutral, and ground. They should be run on #6AWG wire. Plug-n-Play spas come equipped with a 15-amp GFCI cord factory installed and can be plugged into a standard 110V outlet.

How long does it take for the spa to heat up?

Spas that are 220V will heat up approximately 4-6 degrees per hour. 110V hot tubs will heat up approximately 1-2 degrees per hour. Please note that these times are only estimates, and actual time needed to heat your spa to desired temperature is dependent on the ambient temperature.

What should I consider when purchasing a spa?

Perhaps the most important consideration: Which dealer will you buy from?  Choose a reputable dealer that will honor the manufacturer’s warranty and provide the service you will need during the life of your hot tub.
A hot tub can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $18,000. However, the initial cost shouldn’t be the only consideration – full ownership costs include things like site preparation (concrete slab), electrical wiring, maintenance, and repair. Which means choosing a spa made with quality parts and is energy efficient is important.

Are you looking for a way to relax, relieve pain or to entertain/connect with family and friends. Knowing this will help you determine the size of the spa, what type and quantity of jets you’ll need (if you need pain relief in certain areas, will you get the hydrotherapy you are looking for) and if you want optional features like a music system.

Preferably your spa should be placed on a level concrete pad, it can be placed on a deck as long as the structure can accommodate the weight of the spa with water and occupants. Additionally, you’ll want to consider the placement of the cover when the spa is in use, if using a cover lifter, you’ll need to know the clearance needed. You may also want to consider how long it takes to walk to your hot tub.
